Art Jamz Photos and Video And Now in Crystal City!

ArtJamz now in Crystal City!

On Wednesday night, Markette, myself and fellow Artjammers took over the entire floor of a building in Arlington,Va., unleashing our inner artist while painting the night away. And while, I'm certainly no Piacsso, it really didn't matter, because the night was all about letting loose, having fun and getting creative.

The space was a masterpiece by itself.

ArtJamz is  an interactive, artistic and creative environment. Go with a group or go by yourself-- it doesn't matter. Between your fellow art -goers, the music, foobations (that's food and libations haha new word), and all that creativity in one room-you are bound to have an incredible time. Forget going out to dinner and a movie, where you can spend well over $100 bucks per person, spice it up, spend $60 and get creative! This is the perfect "date" outing as well. No awkward silences, or "interview talk" here, you can just focus on the art! Your'e relaxed and  in the moment, and even if there's absolutely no chemistry between you and your date, at least the night will be fun and you can always go home with your art work!

Art comes in all sizes, shapes, and forms. Creativity at its best!

Here's how it works:
Each participant receives a canvas on an easel, paint and materials and gets four hours to create an  original work of art, which is yours to take home. Wine, beer, and hors d'oeuvres, a dj spinning tunes, and your fellow Artjammers will help inspire you and get those creative juices flowing.  For me personally, the more I drank, the better my art!
Vanessa paints the night away.

And mark my words you guys,  ArtJamz is and will become so HUGE that I believe it will  expand and go nationwide. Oh and ArtJamz is available on Groupon, so now you can get a ticket for even cheaper.

And the pioneer behind this creative concept is Michael M. Clements--artist, painter, musician, director and producer.

Clements founded ArtJamz as a production of Genki Media LLC, a company dedicated to the incubation, consultation for and management of creative enterprises in the Washington DC metro area.

"The goal of Genki Media is to help foster the creative economy of the DC Metro Area on an independent and entrepreneurial small business level. Artjamz is one of the first projects we've undertaken, and it speaks directly to what Genki Media stands for-getting DMV residents creatively engaged," says Clements.

A Glitzy Makeup Routine For The Holidays

Are you in the mood for some glitz and glamour? The holiday party season is the perfect time to dress up and show your sparkly alter ego. And your makeup should fit the look, so we went to the experts at Sephora to find out how to add some glitter to your face and skin.

Jeffrey English is a professional makeup artist whose creative use of color and technical skill have earned him a top spot on the elite Sephora 2010 PRO Beauty team.

Jeffrey shares his favorite products, tools and technique's with BeautyInDC.com readers who want to shine this season:

Q: What are some makeup trends for this winter and especially for the holidays?

A: This year we are noticing three key trends for the perfect holiday look. First, we have the sparkling lip. This involves taking any loose glitter (try Make Up For Ever Glitters; $13) and pressing it into a creamy lipstick or gloss for a great effect. Or, a simpler way to achieve this look would be to use a gorgeous, glittering gloss like the Sephora Ultra Shine Lip Gloss in 02 Reflex Frosty White ($14)

Next, we have the multicolored eye for holiday. I love using a variety of different textures and colors of eyeshadows to create a dramatic look. Palettes like the TARINA TARANTINO Jewel Box Palette ($78)) are a great way to experiment with new color combinations since they are comprised of a variety of harmonious colors and textures.

Lastly, the sultry, smoky eye is always a fantastic holiday look. Here you will see lots of deeper colors of layered eye shadows to create a well-blended, smoky effect. A great way to update the traditional smoky eye is to use more modern colors like purple.

Q: Can you suggest a few easy ways to transition your look from office to party?

A: My favorite way to upgrade your look from day to night is to put on a little glitz & glamour! I love to press on the TARINA TARANTINO Sparklicity Pure Gold ($19) on top of any eye look with a flat eyeshadow brush to draw instant attention to those gorgeous gazers! And it doesn’t stop there – the Sephora Glitter Spray ($10) is a shimmering spray for body and hair and will add a gorgeous sparkle to any holiday style. And if you want to add some sparkle all the way from your head to your toes, try the Sephora by OPI Top Coat in Flurry Up ($9) Another great way to transition from a day in the office to a night out on the town is to apply a set of fabulous false lashes. This will offer a dramatic look in a very subtle way.

Q: Are there ways to use glitter and sparkle in a way that’s not too obvious or overboard?

A: Absolutely. An amazing, yet subtle, way to integrate glitter into your beauty look is to merely apply a glitter liner right along the lower lash line and on the outer corner of the eye. This gives a twinkle to the eye in an understated way that will immediately make your eyes pop! Try the tokidoki Glitter Eyeliner Set ($25). A great PRO Artist tip is that if you ever want to remove any glitter or refine your sparkle, use a silicone based primer to pick it right up!

Q: Which products would achieve a holiday “glow” the best?

A: There are two ways to approach achieving a holiday “glow” – you can introduce a radiance boosting moisturizer into your daily skincare routine or applying bronzing and luminizing products into your makeup regimen. The Sephora Favorites Glitz & Glam Shimmer and Shine Makeup Deluxe Sampler ($39) has everything you need to add a little luminosity to your skin. This dazzling makeup collection includes 11 popular bronze colors and complexion-illuminating products like the NARS Orgasm Illuminator and Josie Maran Bronzing Argan Oil. By applying a luminizer to the top of your cheek bone you generate a lot of dimension and draw even more attention to the gorgeous eye area.

All products mentioned are available at www.sephora.com or may be available at your local Sephora store.

Royal Wedding? Not On This Budget!

Various media outlets are reporting that Prince William and Kate Middleton could walk down the aisle as soon as March.

Their royal wedding is rumored to have a budget of $40 million.

But in this -- the worst recession since the Great Depression -- chances are the royal elders won't be so quick to flash their money and wealth around as they did with Prince Charles and the late Princess Diana's elaborate 1981 wedding that spared no expense (i.e. - Lady Di's 25-foot long wedding gown train).

But if you are a bride with a caviar taste...

... on a Kool-Aid budget, then a royal wedding, even a royal-ish wedding is simply out of the question.

That was the feeling that Vienna, Va.-based event planner VaLorie Fogle got every time she interacted with brides on a budget since the recession hit. The brides had Cinderella dreams, but a pauper's pocket book.

The heartbreaking reality was they were going to have to do the running of the brides at Filene's Basement in order to afford a designer dress, or settle for a knock-off from the David's Bridal $99 dress sale.

So Miss Fogle... desperately wanting to help others, while waiting for her own knight in shining armor to come along...

VaLorie Fogle, founder & CEO of
WinningBride.com
...had the idea to start an online auction where brides-to-be on a budget could bid on designer gowns for as little as $20 (kind of like eBay, but for wedding dresses).

Et voila! WinningBride.com was born!

Just three months into the launch of her business, and Fogle has already expanded her inventory to include wedding veils, garter belts and...

VaLorie and Markette exchange garter belt
tales from weddings past.
... and what Fogle likes to call "Second Bliss" items, such as wedding gowns, bridesmaid dresses and accessories put up for auction by ladies who've already "jumped the broom" as they say it in her home state of Arkansas and various other parts of the South.

A bride in waiting: all that's missing is the dress!

One of the more sassy veils available
on WinningBride.com.
And with this new concept, Fogle hopes that brides can now say, "YES!" to the dress of their dreams... even if it is a Vera Wang!

xoxo,

Markette
